There's been a fair bit of news surrounding Resident Evil creator, Shinji Mikami, and his upstart studio Tango Gameworks, who were recently
snapped up by Bethesda in full acquisition form following Bethesda's
gift of copious amounts of cash to do just that with (they probably have enough left over to buy more devs too, Keiji Inafune is now a
free agent, hmmm... ).
Now, 1UP have a
transcribed interview with Mikami from Japanese gaming mag Famitsu, where the legendary game director reveals his next unannounced project, to be published by Bethesda, will be his last behind the helm so he can give the young 'uns a chance to step up while he focuses on running the studio.
"I can only last for so long handling both director and company president duties, and besides, I want to give our younger developers a chance," he said in the interview. "Knowing that, of course, makes me want to put all of my experience, my energy, and everything else I've got into this game."
Apart from the recently released Vanquish, Mikami's greatest claim to fame was Resident Evil 4, a game I hold in my Top Five of all time, so what he does as a swansong should be pretty special. He's also still working on
Shadows of the Damned with Grasshopper Manufacture and Suda51, which looks equally cool.
