Nintendo's promised 3DS press conference today, just gave up its first concrete details for the new handheld's release in the Land of the Rising Sun.

The Japanese will be getting their hands on the device February 26, knocking my prediction of November 20 out by just over three months. It'll cost 25,000 yen (AU$310), and be available in two colours: Aqua Blue and Cosmo Black. It will come bundled with a 2GB SD Card, and in Japan, Nintendo have partnered with FujiTV to deliver 3D television as part of a system "experiment". The system has a "Tag Mode" while in sleep mode, so it'll be constantly seeking new data from hot spots or other 3DS owners, while Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D, Ridge Racer 3D and Street Fighter IV 3D were all games shown.

At the moment, no other details are available in regards to the in-house Nintendo games we want for the system (ie Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Mario 64 et al), or details regarding release outside of Japan, other than March 2011 for North America and Europe (us too, presumably). Stay tuned for more as it becomes available.

Other info that came out of the conference includes a "Virtual Console" service for Game Boy and Game Boy Advance games to be played on 3DS, it is capable of AR games (Augmented Reality), which will be demonstrated with a collection title from Nintendo called "AR Games" while "Mii Studio" will take advantage of the system's camera, allowing for quick and easy creation of 3D Mii characters.
