Ahead of Nintendo's official press event at the end of this month to reveal final details for the Nintendo 3DS (where I predict they'll announce the machine's release in Japan just over a month later, in November), it seems the handheld's system specs have been leaked, and it also seems like Ninty ar holding on to a beefy little system.

According to Gamesindustry.biz the system will run two ARM11 CPUs, a 133Mhz GPU, 4MB of VRAM, 64MB of RAM and a whopping 1.5GB of flash storage (a massive leap over the DSi's 256MB). Moreover, reports are likening the 3DS's PICA200 GPU to a lower resolution PS3 or Xbox 360 instead of Wii, as previously reported.

We'll know more next week, but right now that all sounds pretty awesome.

But sweet f***-all compared to smart phones (which are now a competing gaming platform to DS). I definitely wouldn't call 1.5GB of storage in a portable device whopping by any measure. Even the PSP s**** on that (with memory sticks).

EDIT: Although, after a bit of googling it looks like it will have SD card support as well, which you would have thought would warrant a mention in that gi.biz article.

The graphics should be pretty hot @ those CPU/GPU specs though.
