The grainy effect is part of the game. I noticed it on the PC and PS3 versions.
Anyways, I will happily wait/spam F5 to play this episode.

But when you click on an object in a scene they still walk automatically to the object right? It's not like they will stand there and say "it's too far away" repeatedly is it?

I think in this case its more like saying you don't want to use a steering wheel to drive a motorbike.

Like most niggles described, the WASD thing is not a biggie, and is only a pain when moving a character within a larger scene (ie, the object you want to go to is not yet visible onscreen)
