Just ahead of this year's E3, Ubisoft have dropped a bombshell, today announcing the next installment in the Assassin's Creed series, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood.
The critically acclaimed single player experience of Assassin’s Creed is back and better than ever as Ezio returns in a powerful struggle against the powerful Templar Order. Now a legendary Master Assassin, he must journey to Rome, centre of power, greed and corruption to strike at the heart of the enemy. Defeating the corrupt tyrants entrenched there will require not only strength, but leadership, as Ezio commands an entire Brotherhood that will rally to his side. Only by working together can the Assassins defeat their mortal enemies.
According to the press release, the game will also feature multiplayer for the first time in the series' history. We have more details up on our newly crafted Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood game page, as well as new artwork. The game is due to land Christmas 2010 for PS3, PC and Xbox 360. Check out the debut trailer below!

And here I was hoping the third one would be set in the 'present', and you're using Desmond

Oh well... Multiplayer will certainly be interesting

To me this just proves ubisoft no longer give a s*** about deliverying quality games with solid story telling and now focus on milking customers of there money with lame offshoots that should be released as dlc/exspansions.

this isn't AC III ... infact, i don't think it's even made by the team who did AC as they've been working on ACIII before ACII was even released. just another milking by ubisoft.

This isn't Assassins Creed 3, hence it not being called Assassins Creed 3, if you want to attach a number call it AC 2.5. I expect AC3 will have a new setting, time and protagonist and will continue Desmond's story.

To me this seems to be fleshing out systems and features from AC2 and testing multilayer. I'm keen as. Also pleasantly surprised that it will have a minor single player element.
