Splash Damage have released another new trailer for their upcoming multiplayer shooter Brink, this time detailing the game's character customization system - narrated by Game Director and CEO Paul Wedgewood.

Much like Splash Damage's awesome Christmas cards, Brink allows players to mix and match clothing, equipment and colours to create their own look - a feature common in RPGs but not usually offered in shooters.

check out the trailer here on AusGamers

Brink is due for a Spring 2010 (U.S. Fall Sep/Nov/Dec) release on PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3.

It's 2010 dude, deathmatch doesn't have to just be green marine vs indigo marine anymore.

so wait - the choices you make in character customisation aren't just aesthetic - they mean you stronger, faster, more armoured etc?

Character customisation seems to be the new hotness, everyone's doin it.
Though I fail to see the point since if your game sucks then it's not going to get any better because of the green hair and el salvadorian tattoos.

Case in point: Implementing a hat system in TF2. Did we REALLY need it? Surely the time could have been spent making more killer payload maps.

I think it's pretty cool, you can express yourself through customizing a characters look and making the character unique to everyone elses... bit boring fighting a heap of enemy doods that look the same as you.. Quake even had customisation to a degree by customizing it's clothing colours...

I like it, it's another way to immerse yourself in the game world if you ask me. It's along the same lines of better looking graphics - immersion. It also allows the user to think about not only their gameplay, but their tactics - character selection/customisation - too.

Agreed, it really looks like it's been well executed. Both sides are still unique enough to be able to tell teams but you can still have a bit of individuality as well.

I'm all for games where you can make your character look utterly ridiculous.

Case in point, Biker/Slammer model/skin from Quake III Arena (i.e. my avatar :))

I think you're over-estimate the time it takes to model a hat.
