Sqeenix have release their cinematic
Final Fantasy XIII trailer with English dub, so everyone hanging to play the game from Western shores can check this out to become acquainted with the characters they'll soon be spending hours upon hours with.
It's great to see in this cinematic that each character has had their lip-syncing animated for the English version of the game, and it doesn't look like too shabby of a job, either.
You can grab the trailer in download or streaming
from here, or simply watch the embedded video below.

This was the reason I bought a PS3 but after hearing it being slammed 6 ways from sunday on a variety of issues, I think i'm gonna give it a miss. I don't want to have to buy a new PS3 (mine only lasted like 6 months or so now the laser wont work anymore) for $500 to play this. Some are calling it the biggest rip-off in gaming history

It's a shame really, I use to love Squaresoft and Enix games a lot. Games from these 2 companies were 3-4 of my top 5 games... but after the merger things have steadily been going down hill.
For those interisted in a little free FF-Spin off, Fantasy Earth Zero Beta is now open to English speaking players;

Although it's been open to Japanese speaking players for a while... quite a while... going on 4 years... But you can join the Beta! for English players...

EDIT - That FEZ game may be pretty cool but it's only that beta sign ups that are open, not the actual game by the looks of things. Eh i'll keep it bookmarked for the future.

Cause Famitsu gave it 39/40 instead of 40/40? Or cause of linearity?
The thing to remember is that the initial Japanese release often doesn't include a lot of the extra non-linear end-game missions we are used to. The international releases usually have extra features. The original Japanese release of FF7 didn't include emerald and ruby weapon fights and a few of the boss fights got changed. Same with the other FF's. The hope is that the english version of 13 will have the same process of tweaking / opening up the endgame.

No. This is some of the things i've heard.
- The game is pretty much 1 long hallway until around 20 - 25+ hours into the game.
- You can't avoid battles and can't flee from them.
- Hardly any towns.
- Buying items done in save points
- Party healed back to full hp after every fight (good or bad will differ person to person)
- If the main character dies it's game over. Even if others are alive.
- Often the parties are fixed too so you get stuck with what they give you, usually with only 2 people
- Hardly get any money so you can't buy anything better than what you have looted already.
- There are no levels (seems to be carrying on over to FF14 sadly)
- Only 8 items useable in combat
- Not many weapons or accessories
Even with graphics as good as they are, I won't be getting it unless there are some heavy changes in our release.

And DM, I heard there wasn't gonna be any levels in FF14, and it will be nice to see how they accomplish it, and if they do it with some sort of difference. Not everything has to be a WoW clone xD

All FF games have the start hours as linear, just sounds like its extended a bit.
Couldn't avoid battles in most of the others. Not being able to flee would be a pain.
Well no point in having that many towns if you can buy stuff from the save points. Shopping at save points does sound stupid, but I guess its the same as shopping at a shop thats sitting next to a save point. With regards to money - meh, in most RPGs the stuff you find is better than anything at the shops / what you afford anyway.
The gameplay and difficulty of battles will be adapted to suit these, and it does add in a bit more strategy (re: main character)
Im sure thats only for the linear sections, ie: the same as other FF games during some story bits.
Crystarium System is the levelling system in the game, similar to SG system from FFX. The actual levelling in FFX was pretty useless compared to the effect the SG system had, so I wouldn't be too concerned.
According to gamefaqs theres at least 14 usable items in combat and over 100 equip-able weapons.

F*** off, that's what movies are for. Games are about gameplay, otherwise it's not a game, it's an interactive movie.

Then explain why a game where the primary elements of game play consist of guiding through a menu to perform attacks is so successful.
