Crysis and Far Cry developer Crytech have launched their latest game engine, CryEngine 3 - opening the gates for prospective third party studios to license the powerful tech for their own nefarious purposes.
CryENGINE 3 is the first game development platform for Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, MMO, DX9/DX10 that also is truly Next-Gen-Ready - with scalable computation and graphics for all major upcoming platforms. It provides the complete game engine to create AAA quality next generation games, and includes the redesigned CryENGINE 3 Sandbox™ level editor, a production-proven, 3rd generation “What you see is what you play” (WYSIWYP) - tool designed by and for professional developers.
Crytek are currently hard at work on Crysis 2 which will be CryEngine 3 powered. The list of games powered by CryEngine's previous tech, perhaps with the exception of NCSoft's AION is pretty underwhelming, but it looks like they're making a bigger push for third party licensing this time around. It will certainly be interesting to see what other studios adopt this one.

Fark, looks like even my beast would hate it.

Looks great. I'm glad they added in the ability to stream the level in realtime, like wow. A FPS without load screens would be great.

I also like how the engine can handle destructive environments such as walls etc automatically however i doubt that would be synced via netcode, therefore would probably be turned off in multi right?

The editor looks amazing.

Looks pretty. Needs to optimise for system strength to be much of an improvement on the last engine though; that was a massive issue.

These were shots from all three platforms. I don't think it'd look that much different on PC, it's more that they've made the PS3 and 360 look phenomenal.

I didn't mind the loading screens in crysis as much as the f*****g auto save that, as far as I can see, has no option to turn off (is there a console command?) that would cause the game to freeze for a second while it saved. Really annoying when you're driving along and all of a sudden it just decides to save & lock up while it does it, then when it unfreezes you crash into a tree and blow the f*** up.

It's also a pity that whatever game gets made using this will suck since it's just going to be all about the eye candy like crysis. They were pimping how awesome the AI was but the AI in it is as dumb as they are in every other game, shoot them in the head and they run around for a bit then go back to what they were doing before..... walking around in the open.

Might try that excuse next time I get pulled over.

Also, reminds me of the Quake2 bug where if you saved on top of a moving platform/lift, it wouldn't save the platform's current position. So when you reloaded, you'd spawn in mid air (with the platform at its starting position), causing you to fall into the lava/water and die.

Bloody hell that looks good. I wish the new Op Flash point was done in this or the last engine. Its graphics are s***. Its engine reminds me of the old black hawk down game engine from Novalogic.

Crysis 2 looked great but I gave up just after going thru the alien structure in the mountain. That part really destroyed the game for me, like that Xen level in Half Life. I had more fun just creeping thru the jungle with the sniper rifle and blasting the s*** outta the enemy soldiers.

I'd like to see Crysis 3 with no aliens and more jungle fighting against humans.

I'm guessing he's mixing up crysis & farcry 2 (somehow?) but yeah I hated the alien ship part of crysis, boring as hell. They should have made it zip you off to the alien home planet somehow & you fight them there in a big open environment instead of cooped up in a little tiny ship, so sick of small room based shoot em ups.

I get like that is single player rev, you are having fun shooting marines or whatever then all of a sudden random f*****g zombie mutant things with horns come up and your like wtf and stop playing.

I thought crysis was pretty meh up until around the alien cave part, before that it just seemed to plod along, then s*** started blowing up, you got a few big set pieces... i can understand people not liking the actual cave, but imo thats when the game actually started picking up.

I played crysis after farcry2 n the camping n sniping a small number of enemy soldiers was already very old n repetitive. I liked how crysis had re-enforcements & then later, better equipped enemies... whereas farcry2 was always the same ol' enemies. I enjoyed the aliens in the mountain coz by then i was totally sick of the cloak, move, hide, re-armour, snipe enemy, repeat! cycle of killing enemy troops. even the koreans with the nano-suits & chainguns where too predictable after ya got thier number. the zero-grav n the squidy aliens was a cool change imo.

What happened to the ultra graphics for crysis that were promised 18 months after it was released?
