Neogaf have a forum post up boasting what an already stunning looking Wii title like Super Mario Galaxy would look like if output in HD at 720p. The end result, as you can see, is somewhat annoying because this is really the sort of visual quality that should be standard now, yet Nintendo continue to ignore the HD revolution.
For those who need to know, this was possible through a Wii emulator set to output at 720p. It would be awesome for Nintendo to release a new Wii HD-ready, if only because it's obvious their games are capable of looking like this.

Hurry up and release a WiiHD ninty, so even if we still have to play the same low-poly games until the next gen, at least we can do it in higher resolutions.

One word:
DSi.

And yeah, I can't see Nintendo replacing it with a HD version any time soon - most developers would just decide to develop for the higher end version only or abuse the new features, removing backwards compatability.

I honestly don't see a problem with it, as long as neogaf isn't ausgamers ONLY source.

Even if we're not going to get high poly models etc or numerous other things that would bring it to par with PS3 and X360, a higher res is still going to make Wii games easier on the eye.
