Well, it most certainly has been pushed back. Haze, the first-person shooter for PS3 developed by Free Radical (Time Splitters), has been pushed back to April this year, or even beyond. Originally slated for a December 2007 release, it was expected the game would hit in the first quarter of 2008, however, Ubisoft has said the game may be as far away as April, or beyond.

"Haze has been delayed as the financial situation allowed it," explained Ubisoft Australia PR and Promotions Manager, Chad Acers. "So we decided to take additional time and polish it [the game]."

The delay has come about in the wake of Ubisoft's most recent financial reports that show massive growth over their margins this time last year, even beyond their Q3 07-08 projections, suggesting there's no real need for Haze to arrive just yet. Here's hoping the added time gives this purported PS3 exclusive a real chance to shine.

they haven't 'officially' said it's canned all together for Xbox 360, which suggests it's just a timed exclusive (ie 3 or 6 months on PS3 before hitting Xbox)

Had a chance to play Haze at the eGames Expo in Melbourne 2007 over at the Ubisoft stand. Whilst the graphics were sharp (and a little bland) the frame rate was poor, and most likely contributed to the incredibly frustrating lag in movement control. Driving a vehicle reminded of the first time I drove a car in Crackdown with absolutely no experience. The friendly AI seemed quite average. When I say average I mean as bad as B-grade bargain big first person shooters. After being dropped into a firefight amongst some shipping containers (how original) I was left to fight my fight whilst three of my comrades stood around admiring the dull quarry surrounding us. Hopping into the buggy that was dropped with me only triggered two of my comrades to board it, whilst the third one stood there tempting me to run him over despite the fact the buggy could carry three passengers. Unlike in Halo, released in 2001, he made no attempt to avoid me and instead somehow turned on God mode.

Here's hoping the makers of Time Splitters (and GoldenEye, for some) make good use of the new release date!
