Philips' amBX (short for 'ambient experience') technology will be used in two of Ubisoft's forthcoming 2008 releases, Brothers in Arms: Hell's Highway, and FarCry 2, in an attempt to liven the gaming experience had with both action-packed games, ten-fold. Ubisoft also said a downloadable patch will be made for the original FarCry to take advantage of the technology while a handful of other Ubisoft titles were still under consideration for the amBX experience (Assassin's Creed please).

For those not aware of what amBX is:
amBX reinvents the gameplay experience by extending the traditional gaming world out of the screen and into the real world. amBX delivers full 'surround senses' by allowing developers to use light, colour, sound, rumble and even air flow through enabled devices, including the Philips amBX PC Gaming Peripherals range of LED colour-controlled lighting, rumble peripherals and variable speed desktop fans.
In other words, a whole bunch of lights and whistles are peripherally added to try and immerse players even more. You can check out a flashy video for the technology by clicking here.

Idol, I actually like your idea better than this AmBX thing. Not just the climate though, basically steal all the stuff that AmBX are doing and implement it on a larger scale in cinemas, it'd be badass. Imagine watching the cheesey skydiving scene in Shoot 'Em Up with air rushing past you.

While I think amBX could be cool, it's only going to add immersion when you do it on the larger scale. Having a tiny little 120mm fan blowing in your face will not give the feeling of falling out of an aeroplane. Having a couple of lights behind the monitor which lag and don't change at exactly the right time, will be distracting and probably ruin the experience.

Lol, no, that's a present of gaming. That hardware already exists, Squid. It's called TrackIR.
