Grand Theft Auto 4
Microsoft have just revealed details surrounding the Xbox 360's success across Australia and New Zealand. According to the M$ there are now over 300,000 consoles sold through both territories and in Australia alone, they claim an average of 6.6 games are being sold per console. This means Xbox 360 owners purchase more games than owners of any other console. They also claim the attach rate for games is a record for console at this stage in its lifecycle. Apparently the 500,000th 360 accessory - across Aus and NZ - was also sold this week. I wonder if they had one of those Movie-like moments where a whole bunch of M$ employees jump up and down as a siren goes off and streamers and balloons fall from the ceiling?

They've also reminded us the new GTA IV trailer "Move Up Ladies" is available for download from the Xbox Live Marketplace. You can also grab it here, locally from AusGamers. Finally, Xbox Live Arcade is offering lower prices for some of the older titles, while two new games have also arrived. Sierra's Arkadian Warriors and a New Zealand developed title called GripShift. Beyond XBLA, you can now also download classic original Xbox titles from the XBLM including the likes of Halo and Fable among a stack more.

Looks like the software giant has had an impressive year, and continues to grow here in Australia. Now if only they'd lower some of the M$ points needed for most of this stuff, we could all sleep a little better at night.

Actually, no it doesn't. After the fall update, DivX now works on the 360, but only through the dashboard and not when the 360 is being used as a media extender. This madness on the part of M$ (wait, what? Your consol media centre interface doesnt play media when the console can???) has been widely reported in all the popular MCE forums etc. I e-mailed M$ 360 support re this, and they confirmed that "we do not support DivX playback" in the media centre interface. As such, whilst the 360 does do DivX, you still need to use transcode360 to view a DivX file under the MCE interface...

Great work, very smooth.
