Now alongside Metal Gear Solid's
Solid Snake, gamers can also play as Sonic in Nintendo's forthcoming beat 'em up, Super Smash Bros. Brawl. Sega today announced the blue hedgehog would appear in the game and stands as a further testament to "
the continuing partnerships between Nintendo and SEGA" according to Sega Europe President and COO, Mike Hayes.
On top of this, Sega also revealed more information regarding gameplay features for Mario and Sonic at the Olympic Games. Players will be able to port their Mii characters to face off against both Mario and Sonic characters in the game's myriad of events as well as compete in a newly revealed mode called "Dream Events".
The Dream Events - which are both single and multiplayer - are based in colourful game-like universes that include objects and power-ups that will either improve a players game, or bring their opponent down.
The four Dream events featured are:
- Dream Race (Sandhill Race Course) – Get on your marks for this intense power-up filled race course, made for either one player, or as many as four.
- Dream Platform (Tropical Reef Diving Area – 10,000M Diving) – More like skydiving, soar through hoops and perform aerial tricks while avoiding obstacles and opponents to reach the finish line first.
- Dream Fencing (Duel Wharf Fencing Beach) – With unique special attacks for each character, this jungle-inspired world offers the ultimate duel.
- Dream Table Tennis (Speed Rally Table Tennis Stadium) – A sci-fi wonderland, this magical table tennis extravaganza offers a special ability for each character – so move fast!
All sounds pretty cool and looks like Nintendo and Sega are getting chummier and chummier. I would still love to see another Sega developed F-Zero for Wii, maybe through this growth that might even happen??? (Are you listening Sega?)
