Fresh from the Bethesda blog comes over 20 minutes of recorded gameplay video from notch's The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim:
In these videos, Todd Howard guides viewers through the presentation that’s been shown at E3, QuakeCon, and PAX Prime!
The three videos are all now available for streaming direct from AusGamers - part 1, part 2, and part 3 you can also download the higher quality videos if you prefer watching in higher definition.

Skyrim is definitely one of the most anticipated titles we've seen in recent times, so make sure you check out the rest of our coverage for more.

looks gorgeous and that's just on the 360. hopefully, pc will look even more spectacular.

Definitely looks lovely. There's only two gamebreakers for me with this one. Firstly, if the character moves clunkily/awkward, say like in Dead Island, I'll stop playing. Second is combat. If combat feels like ass then I won't bother either. Oh, prolly should add if you can't remap the whole keyboard that's another.

So apart from those happening this game looks like it will be damn cool.

OK I watched all three videos. I remain somewhat bemused. Our hero travels throughout the entire massively mapped game, killing everything in site. Where's the collaboration, the understanding of new and exciting species and the opportunity to make life long friendships with like minded warriors?

Screw that! Just kill everything in site!

No opportunity to play with friends, this looks like a lonely and unhappy game that would leave my soul all but destroyed! Still .. should be a hit with the kiddies eh? .. lol!

Last point, this middle-class, white, American built game smacks of where 'US thinking' is right now. All against the world and kickin' arse wherever it can, to prove its might to the world!

Skyrim? Skyfail!

I really hope that's a temporary UI, with the giant floating compass and health bar.

Seems like they still haven't hired enough good animators. The player character is a big step up but most npcs look like the same old animators slowly getting better at their job but still being way off industry standard. If you compare the horse animation to red dead redemption its like comparing finger painting to oils and brushes. But maybe some of it is placeholder still - the way the npc interacted with that log looked quite good.

On the positive side, Im liking the weather stuff they are doing. The volumetric(is that right?) fog, rather than just fogging consistantly based on range really helps sell the world as its one of the things that noticeably splits real and virtual worlds.

edit: nah nerfy I reckon its so you can see the UI on a tv. - hopefully they rework it for pc.

Those were the first vids I had watched of Skyrim and I'm pretty f*****g excited now.

Love the idea of dual wielding weapons/spells. Wonder if you dual wield spells if you can combined two different type to make a bigger spell, ala magicka.

Yeah, that was actually my reaction. I guess I just think that the more important part, then the slaughtering and scenery and whatnot, is a decent human plot to it all. Morrowind was awesome, it had slaves and drug addled secret imperial agents who you worked for and conflicting religions and frontier lifestyle and whatnot, whereas Oblivion quickly bored me to tears.

I liked the animations of the giants on the plains in the video, looked very good. Combat may be a little lack luster but this is not God of War or some arcade game. It can be hard to judge unless we are looking at HD video of the PC retail version. I am sure the first day after launch there will be some UI mods for your Nerfy, If they don't have it in the option or ini file.

Yeah I had to rely on UI mods last time, mostly to fit the map to a PC screen etc. Their working of the objects (and their details) into the UI is pretty cool (won't be fast, but has a purpose), it's just the huge-ass hovering compass which I was finding mega distracting. As somebody said though, it might be a tv thing. Those crazy console-people.

You have to remember this is all previewed on Xbox 360, i'd say there will be a sizeable jump in quality of facial animations, UI etc. for PC, i personally saw oblivion on Xbox and it never looked that good, so i'm pretty confident that the PC version is gonna be really pretty.

Can't imagine there being any difference at all in the animations between versions. Higher res textures on the PC version probably, and maybe support for stuff like DX11 and tessellation, but the animations would be the same. The animation in this is already worlds above Oblivion though. It might still not be perfect, but its already looking waaaaaay better.

Yup exactly that Nerfy, I remember morrowind being the first rpg game I got into and there seemed to have been a heap of varying content and just general randomness over the place, oblivion did not seem to have all of that in it, just seemed like a huge crater that was just filled with a forrest and a couple of cities here and there.
Nerfy
Posted 11:24pm 13/9/11
Haha couldn't have put it better, "huge crater" has been how I've always thought of it. Fast travel didn't help, barely "got to know" the places, unlike Morrowind where you'd have a base of operations and it was a frikkin quest to get to a new town in that crazy frontier world (that first run from the boat to Balmora, was f*****g epic).

Unfortunately its only going to be DX9......save money because the consoles can not do DX11 :(

The UI looks like a great improvement, too bad it was not the PC version so we could see how the mouse interacts with the menus.
